The Beijing Contemporary Music Academy in China has smashed the record for theLargest performing rock band after 953 musicians played a show together in Tianjin.

In order to achieve the Guinness World Records title, the performance had to be of a good standard and conducted by an experienced professional.

The 953-person rock band was led by renowned singer-songwriter Cui Jian, who is often called the “Father of Chinese Rock” thanks to being one of the first Chinese artists to record rock music.

Guinness World Records officials Tina Shi and Dong Cheng were on hand to judge the incredible attempt, and were thrilled to announce that the previous record of 520 musicians had been almost doubled

The previous record was set by a 520-strong band comprising an 121 drummers, 62 keyboardists, 168 guitarists, 97 singers and 72 bass players, who played “7 Nation Army” by The White Stripes, among other well-known tracks, on 23 Jun 2013. The event was organised by Association Music Revolution in France.

Note:Guinness World Records is aware of reports that there was a larger rock band at the Rockin'1000 event that took place in Italy last year and would welcome evidence from the organisers to substantiate the claim, but until then it remains that the largest rock band as verified by Guinness World Records is the one created by the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.

A new Guinness World Record for the largest Lego sculpture has been set in the UK, where a 13-metre high replica of the London's iconic Tower Bridge was created using an astounding 5,805,846 individual pieces.

The structure beats the previous record by 470,646 bricks.

Laid end to end, the bricks used in the construction would stretch for almost 200 miles - the equivalent distance from Tower Bridge in London to Paris.
Led by Duncan Titmarsh, a LEGO Certified Professional, it took five months to construct the Tower Bridge structure.

This is an epic, outstanding build that absolutely captures the imagination in a way we haven't seen before. With LEGO bricks and some imagination you really can build anything!" said Emma Owen, LEGO UK and Ireland Spokeswoman, speaking on confirmation of the record.

The new record beats the previous title holder - a replica of a Star Wars X-wing fighter, built from 5,335,200 bricks in 2013 to promote the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon.

The original Tower Bridge in London crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and is about 244 metres long and 65 metres high.

Viva México! Six records to celebrate Mexican independence day

Every year on 16 September, millions of Mexican citizens celebrate their country’s independence with parades, traditional music and the famous grito or “shout” of Dolores, commemorating the war that ultimately won the nation’s independence.

This year Guinness World Records is joining in on the celebration by sharing some of our favourite Mexican records.

1. One of Mexico’s most beloved and traditional musical styles is Mariachi, which has been recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2013, 700 Mariachi musicians gathered in Guadalajara to claim the record title for Most Mariachis performing simultaneously (pictured above), bringing the title back to Mexico from its previous record holder California.

2. Mexico is also famous around the world for its delicious food, which is a fusion of indigenous Mesoamerican and European cuisines. Perhaps the most famous Mexican dish of all is the taco. In 2015 the city of Hermosillo, Mexico channelled their love of cooking into a new world record for the Largest serving of tacos with a whopping 1,166.5 kilogrammes of carne asada tacos. That was enough to make nearly 19,000 tacos on 1,050 grills.

3. With all this talk of Mexican patriotism, it would be remiss to forget that the city of Piedras Negras, Mexico holds the record for the Largest flag flown. The giant Mexican flag measured 34.4 metres by 60 metres and was hoisted over the desert city on a windy day in 2011.

4. Along with food and music, Mexicans are passionate about sports, especially football. In fact, the Copa Telmex holds the record for both the Largest football (soccer) tournament (female) and the Largest football (soccer) tournament (male), which took place throughout Mexico with 42,324 and 215,273 participants respectively.

5. To celebrate the Day of the Dead, 509 costumed participants gathered in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico to break the record for the Largest gathering of Catrinas and Catrines. The group had their faces painted to resemble skeletons and wore traditional costumes.

Video: Fearless stuntman enters Guinness World Records 2017 in flames

Professional stuntman Josef Tödtling from Austria has entered the new Guinness World Records 2017 Edition for achieving the Longest distance pulled by a horse - full body burn during an attempt in Teichalm-Fladnitz, Styria, Austria.

Josef travelled an incredible 500 m (1640.42 ft) while completely engulfed in flames, but protected with several layers of clothing and cooling gel, as well as metal shin and elbow pads.

These were vital pieces of equipment, as the specially trained stunt horse kept up a brisk canter for the whole attempt, dragging Josef along on his front at about 35 km/h (21 mph).

Josef, who has 49 movie credits to his name, was accompanied on his bumpy journey by a quad-bike rider, who replenished the flames with lamp oil as needed.

Having made the full 500-m, pre-measured distance, Josef promptly outstripped it with another record: a 582-m (1,909-ft) haul, tied this time to the back of the quad bike – theLongest distance pulled by a vehicle (full-body burn).

Speaking of his record achievements during his photoshoot for the Guinness World Records 2017 Edition, the daredevil stuntman said: “It just feels amazing to be a Guinness World Records holder because there are many people in the world, and I did it best and […] that’s pretty cool and amazing.”

Longest duration full body burn

In 2013 Josef broke the record for the Longest duration full-body burn (without oxygen)by spending 5 min 41 sec aflame, in a full-body burn at Salzburg Fire Department in Austria.

Needless to say, this record required very careful preparation. And he had to keep a cool head to concentrate on controlling his movements: one careless gesture might have fanned flames into his eyes or mouth.

Josef appears in the Guinness World Records 2017 Edition book alongside loads of the world's most daring record breakers.

Bobby Brown: A Record from the Heart

Bobby Brown believes in beating the odds.

Despite the slim chances that he’d survive past the age of 40, he has managed to turn his encouraging story into one of survival, perseverance, and now, a Guinness World Record title.

Living in Gastonia, North Carolina (USA) the 78-year-old is now able to spend his newfound time with the heartfelt company of his 8th grade sweetheart, three children, and six grandchildren as the Longest surviving double heart bypass patient.

However, he may not have received that time without his first valiant plunge under the knife, at a time when open-heart surgery was not at the level it is today.

The year of 1975 would be the first time Bobby would go into an infirmary for his own intensive heart surgery. At the age of 37, it soon became a blatant ultimatum if he wanted to continue living his life.

Bobby had lost his father at the age of four, as well as his two brothers in their 40s due to their plaguing family history of heart disease.

Despite the number of deaths, the most devastating bereavement was by far his oldest brother, who was idolized by Bobby as his “father fill-in”.

Brown felt the loss tremendously when he was taken so abruptly at a normal day of work.

Since the death of his last brother, heart disease had dwindled the numbers to his once six-person family to three.

It was a drastic loss that many are fortunate not to experience.

Little did Brown know that one night in 1975, he too would feel the same excruciating chest pains his father and brothers once felt.

After being taken to the emergency room from a night of severe discomfort, doctors at the Charlotte Memorial hospital declared that Bobby had two blockages out of his four coronary arteries.

He would need to undergo a double coronary bypass procedure, with the terrifying knowledge that the first successful bypass performed in the United States, was only done eight years prior.

Yet, Bobby elected to regain control over the fate that hung over him to continue living for himself and his loved ones.

While he was frightened from the outcome, in his own words, “I had no choice. You just have to suck it up and face it… or risk an early demise.”

Fortunately, Bobby would outlive his brothers by thirty years and counting.

After having a triple bypass procedure in 1985, a pacemaker and defibrillator put in in 2009, and stents added in 2013, Bobby now lives as a resilient patient who overcame his genetic demons.

The retired business man and school teacher now thanks his fantastic surgeons and healthcare professionals for his recovery and long-term survival.

He mentions, “I am just the recipient of some wonderful care. I want to encourage others that surgery is not the end but a new chance on life.”

Robert “Bobby” Brown is thrilled and pleased to get the chance to do things he loves. With the time he has gained from his surgery, he has become an award-winning historical author, member of the Mended Hearts Caromont Health Chapter, grandfather, and has reached great progress on restoring his 1930 Model A Ford.

A subsequent of his life story, he now lives by 5 epigrams:

1. Do something for someone else
2. Do something creative
3. Do something selfish
4. Do something learned.
5. During the day, have a good laugh.

Bobby is thrilled to be a Guinness World Records title holder, and considers it a great honor. He believes it is a wonderful addition to his story, that he can now share to inspire others.
